Chatum Taylor has a passion for people, but that’s just one of the many assets Chatum brings to her many roles in the greater Lansing Community. A single mom to a 21-year-old daughter, Chatum knows what it takes to be a leader-skills she uses in her daily life and career. While working and raising her daughter, she earned a bachelor’s degree in management at the age of 29. It was not easy, but Chatum was determined and proud to do it.
Chatum is a dedicated advocate for educational excellence and community empowerment, seeking to serve as a member of the Lansing Community College Board of Trustees. With a Proven track record of leadership, collaboration, and a deep commitment to higher education, Chatum brings a wealth of experience and passion to this role. That passion extends to the members she worked with at the Credit Union located in LCC’s Gannon building 5 years ago where she was able to devote individualized time to helping the students who were often taking their first steps toward managing their financial lives. As Chatum worked 4 years in this role as branch manager, her goal was to let students know she’d guide them on the path to financial success from their first credit card to their first car, she would be with them every step of the way. It was more than just financial transactions. Chatum became a personal counselor, mentor, and friend to the students. Chatum was the support at basketball games, homecoming, and plays, which the students personally invited her to.
As a resident of Lansing, an active member of the community, and having a college student of her own, Chatum understands the unique needs and challenges facing students, faculty, and staff at Lansing Community College. With a background in finance and community engagement, she has firsthand knowledge of the transformative power of education and its impact on individuals and communities.
Chatum’s professional experience includes Community leadership, bank, and financial management. Also serving on the City Rescue Mission board. Through her work, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering inclusivity and belonging. Diversity, and equity in all aspects of education, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed regardless of their background or circumstances.
Chatum’s vision for Lansing Community College is one of innovation, excellence, and student-centeredness. She is committed to working collaboratively with fellow board members, administrators, faculty, and community stakeholders to develop policies and initiatives that promote community advocacy, academic excellence, and financial wellness.
With her strong communication skills, strategic thinking, and dedication to serving the community, Chatum Taylor is poised to make a meaningful and positive impact as a member of the Lansing Community College Board of Trustees. She is ready to listen, learn, and lead with integrity, transparency, and a focus on the needs of students and the community at large.
